Night Quote Analysis/Sections 5-6

Quote #1
"As i swallowed my bowl of soup, I saw in the gesture an act of rebellion and protest against him"(Wiesel 76).

Everyone was fasting during their time of need, hoping that their lord would save them. Elie didn't believe in god anymore. He thought that God didn't care about him anymore because he would not save them. Why fast if you were starving, Elie thought. He saw no reason in praying anymore because he had no belief. Elie saw an act of rebellion and protest against god when he refused to fast like everyone else who still had faith. Elie thought he had no reason to try to live when there was no one he believed in.

Quote #2
"Around me everything was dancing a dance of death"(Wiesel 95).

Dancing a dance of death is an analogy because obviously nobody was dancing that night when he lay in an old shed with many people lying dead. When your dead you do not dance therefor he was saying something but meaning the opposite. Dead people cannot dance, but i think Elie means something really deep. Dancing a dance of death is referring to people that were on the verge of dying limping around like dolls. Elie compared limping to dancing to lighten the dreary feeling that took place on that unholy night.
